Look for a story where a woman is mistaken for a student and stripped for smoking

I remember reading a story about a young woman who was very unlucky. She was constantly losing money and her clothes. She was very down on her luck. She managed to get a job as an assistant at a small law firm or something and was wearing only a skirt and a blouse I think. I distinctly remember in this story, which I think may have been the final part in a series, the woman goes to a school to deliver something from the firm where she is an assistant. After she makes the delivery, she ends up sharing a cigarette from some delinquent school girls behind a shed or some such, when a teacher or the principal or something catches them, and thinking that she is a student punishes her (by stripping and spanking her or something).

I don't have the story... but it sounds similar to one I remember where the girl was a trainee / intern reporter or somthing and wanted to get a scoop about the strict school and gets the girls punished so she can find evidence of harsh punishments? She gets caught spying and ended up getting forcibly entrolled into the school as everyone but the head things shes a younger girl?

There are a fair few stories like that (and if you want to share any links then feel free), but the one I am thinking of is fairly old and definitely not any of the recent new ones. It was definitely not about a reporter.
