Part Eighteen

It was four in the afternoon before I was finally able to scramble back over my garden fence from Alison's and get some clothes on. I spent several minutes prevaricating over whether to use the painting or the statue. I guess Jackie the art teacher may put it to the vote of the girls and I guess there is even a possibility that they may vote to draw both poses ?

Part Nineteen

I had Sunday to myself, plus two routine days at work, before I was pitched back into the somewhat surreal world with which I had become embroiled. That made little difference to me, although I did reflect that holding the statue pose for an hour might be more arduous than that of the painting, where the figure had seemed to be perched on some kind of seat.

Alison insisted that she drive me to the school on Wednesday morning, sitting up front alongside her, while Lexie and Denise were relegated to the back seat. "Everyone's so looking forward to today Rob" Denise remarked with a grin. "Don't bother cooking anything for yourself tonight Rob, I'll bring you dinner as a reward" said Alison. On arrival I was greeted by the art teacher Jackie, together with the principal. "I didn't expect to be seeing you again so soon Mr Snowden but I presume you know all about Miss Lexie's agitation ?" She cast an ambiguous glance in the direction of Lexie, who was still hanging around. "Yes, I have had that explained" I replied. "I'm sorry that you were caused so much trouble" I added. "Not at all, it was an interesting challenge. On reflection I can see the educational advantages presented by the day. We will have historical tie ins as well as references to the cultural differences between those times and the present. I'm sure the girls will all benefit greatly and so I should be thanking you for making yourself available once again."

The principal led me into the staff room to introduce me to those members of staff that I had not already encountered. As befitted an all girls school, the staff was also exclusively female. And now, I want you all to show your appreciation to Mr Snowden. Will you stand up Rob ?" she asked. I stood nervously. Was I supposed to wave or something ? "So girls, say 'thank you Mr Snowden'" "Thank you Mr Snowden" chorused 250 high pitched voices. "And now girls" the principal continued, "in accordance with the spirit of the martial scene Mr Snowden will be enacting, we will sing for our morning hymn 'Onward Christian Soldiers'"

"Stay here for now Rob" Jackie said, as the other staff members and most of the girls left the hall. "Denise, start rearranging the seating and the easels" she called to Denise and the other senior girls who had stayed behind with her. "Because we have so many girls signed up, we couldn't all fit in the art room and so we're going to use the hall here" Jackie explained to me. " I watched as Denise and co began to arrange seating close up to the front of the stage. "We're going to have you posing up here" Jackie clarified.
