There is definatly some SPAM protection as I always log in to loads of posts to approve mostly SPAM but some slip through unfortuantly.

Yeah. I'm trying to figure out how to set up the capcha thing for registration, but for some reason it's such a convoluted mess of a process, and sadly I'm more busy than ever these days, so I rarely log in except late at night, when I don't have the patience to actually figure that stuff out ...

At the risk of jinxing it, it seems the influx of bots have been stopped once the capcha was implemented.

I think the issue is solved for now.

Counted out I deleted over 1000 messages past week(s), you guys didn’t even report everything
And now I see it’s even 3 names at the same time

As far as I can tell, this particular theme is for users who joined before I updated the capcha, while I can stop the creation of new bots, sadly we have to take care of the old ones ourselves when they show up.
