The Summer Slam **OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT** PHASE 1

Post by Humilatron »

Welcome to the 1st Annual GPS Summer Slam

A tournament to see who is the very best. In an unofficial official GPS ENF Writing Tournament.

The Rules:

ENF ONLY
  • Main characters may only be 16 or older.
  • The initial post should be MIN 200- MAX 800 words.
  • The competition will have multiple phases, so we’ll start out easy
  • All brackets will be determined at COMPLETE random.
Everyone who wants to participate must have their initial post made by April 10th

Title it: Summer Slam - YOUR Name

IE: Summer Slam - Humilatron

DO NOT CALL IT ANYTHING ELSE

You will make your initial post NO more than 800 words. Use a word counter to check.

Then on April 11th I will announce the brackets and then release the information for PHASE 2.

To clarify, the initial post is YOU setting up the story. It should introduce the overall concept of the story, the characters, including the perspective. You are not giving a prompt, you are starting a story that will be continued by another person. I realize that some people like to be specific while others like to be vague. In the interest of playing fair all I ask is you abide by the rules and word count AND also the beginning should make sense of what is going on. It can be vague, it can be Shakespeare, but it should make sense. If someone is being purposefully trollish meaning that it’s obvious that it’s not something a person can reasonably work with, then I may request a rewrite. I understand that this next request is harder to enforce, but I ask people to avoid replying to the Summer Slam posts. If you want to discuss the contest. Please do so in THIS thread, not one of the submissions.

800 words is going to kick my ass so badly. I just checked out of curiosity and probably the shortest story I ever posted (Maa'Gryph 1 "Can You Get Our Pot of Gold?") was 1419 words  .

Ha I wanted to avoid limiting the amount of parts and also avoid the appending unfinished stories of doom. Plus this is only phase 1 and I can’t have people spending a whole year on just phase 1

The most amusing part will be phase 2 which I won’t say much but basically it’ll be a randomly generated prompt.

I have yet to figure out the other phases, but it’ll depend on how many people actually participate. I anticipate 4-8 because that’s the usual turn out. But if we end up with more than that, it may be a longer competition than intended and then I may have to hurry the brackets along lmao. I do have a general idea of the challenges I will instill.

Plus I’ve also noticed a trend of voting bias for the longer stories (I have contributed to that as well) which I’m hoping to avoid by having everyone on the same word count so that everyone can read all the entries and assess based on content not length or noteriety.

At least your edit has now clarified that we're only STARTING a story. At first it looked like you wanted a whole-ass story in 800 or less. I'll have to think on what situation that I want to create for this. We have plenty of time at least.

Don’t worry, you’ll have plenty of room in the reply when you expand on someone else’s story. I’m interested to see what the actual turn out will be though.

The 800 word limit was TORTURE, but I managed to barely squeeze my entry in under the limit. It probably didn't help that my idea involved such an eloquent and verbose antagonist, but his proper portrayal was a must in order to set the mood and scene.

Also I just want to give a shoutout to TheBlushingPrincess because a conversation with her in another thread was most of what inspired my entry. She had commented that there were very few stories these days about men being cruel when stripping women, lamenting that most of the stories were girls stripping girls. That led me to brainstorm on situations where a male would cause the stripping of a woman while having interest only in her humiliation (not his own sexual urges). This brainstorming led to me creating Deacon Stoughton, who then inspired the entire entry.

PS: Yes I named him after the judge in the Salem Witch Trials. Honestly a bunch of my character last names are references to things, that's an old quirk of mine.

Some people are cutting it really close lol. It’ll be interesting to see what’ll happen in the next phase though. The initial word count for phase 2 I had set I ended up reducing because I realized how long it would actually allow people to be, and I do want to make sure people don’t end up going into hibernation before this tournament ends 🤣 let’s just say the first word count I had would be 10 pages equivalent to which I know we all like long stories, but that’s just a bit much. I think I’m settling for 2500 words which is about 5 pages. Not too long, not too short.

Yes, well thank you for the shout out. I do imagine it will be challenging to write such a story without it feeling "rapey." But if anyone can do it, you can! I look forward to reading.
The way I understand this, it will actually be someone else continuing the story from here while I am handed one of theirs at random. I would hope that the results didn't feel rapey considering that story should really focus on the extreme power dynamic and the mortification of the prudish and timid protagonist. The fact that everyone watching her believes 100% that she deserves her punishment is part of that dynamic too, since only Sarah and the true culprit know that she is actually innocent.

PS: I tend to be wordy because of my use of loads of dialogue (external and internal). If I must I can shrink that down.

It’s fine. So far there’s only the one constraint. Although, you’re starting to give me some evil ideas for upcoming rounds. Although I already have the first few phases worked out.

The only thing right now is I’m trying to figure out a fair voting system. Like honestly Google forms would be the easiest to use for the voting.

Would people be against using Google forms to vote?
