I have had other people continue my stories (with my permission of course) and I have spun-off a story or two of other authors (again with permission).
As for my stories, there are a few that are unfinished and many more that are incomplete. There is a difference: an unfinished story leaves the boy naked in a room full of horny girls. An incomplete story at least finishes a chapter with the possibility of writing more chapters.
I could "close the door" on a story by summarizing what happens next and ending in "And they lived happily ever after." I've done this with a few stories.
