the answer is to turn off new membership for now, until this gets figured out, since all these spammers just joined today.

Just a suggestion that might not be possible on a PHP forum but could outsmart a lot of these bots if it works....

I know that new accounts have to make 3 posts before they can DM anyone. My question is: Can it be rigged up so that new members cannot post until they've given at least one Thanks to a post? Most bots aren't going to be smart enough to deal with that security step. We would just need a warning given to new members on sign-up warning them of the need to Thank something first before they could make posts.

Or we could put that limiter when they try to post the post from their drafts.

A real person would resd the message and understand, but a bot wouldn't

Is there anything wrong with limiting new members to 3 posts per day, and all members to 6 posts per day?

Members with permission from Mods can post more per day.

I believe that would resolve everything.


We now have members replying to those spam posts in the stories.
