With that said, fantasy authors have been known to merge different mythologies. The Southern Vampire Mysteries book series (on which the True Blood TV show is based) specifically has fairies as the 'base type' of fae, with angels and demons (among many others) being some of the types they can choose to evolve into.
I suppose what I'm saying in a long winded way is, as long as it makes sense in your story, you can make the mythology what you want.
