Hello,
I was wondering how you feel when an author decide to delete his stories. I know some I liked a lot disappeared now.
Should we do backups once the stories are shared or should we let the author decide what to keep or not alive online, like if they have more shame than proud of those?
I'm curious about your opinion

Re: Feeling about deleted stories
We have lots of stories weve saved in the archive when boards and other sites have been deleted in the past. However if an author wants work deleting I think its best to honor their wishes.

I will delete and/or not post any story that the author doesn't want posted.
Just let me know.

Re: Feeling about deleted stories
I have very mixed feelings about this, in the same way I have very mixed feelings in general on how IP rights are handled.
On the one hand, the creator of a work deserves an amount of control over it. But on the other hand, once that work has been released into the world it touches everyone that comes into contact with it.
That leaves a void when the work is withdrawn. And while that's the creator's prerogative as a consumer it's disappointing when something you appreciate is taken away.

Re: Feeling about deleted stories
Ultimately, it should be the author who has final say.
I’ve seen stories deleted from here, and reached out to the author.
Sometimes, it’s dissatisfaction with their own work, and they want it gone.
Valid.
Sometimes there are outside factors that necessitate the deletion of a work.
Also valid.
An author’s work is their property, and they can do with it whatever they feel.
Even if it’s a beloved work, cherished by the community.
They don’t owe you anything, really.
If they no longer want a work displayed, that’s up to them.

Re: Feeling about deleted stories
I started a story here that is written in Screenplay format.
It's a difficult form of writing to do in this type of setting. It wasn't getting a lot of attention, and I wasn't happy with the result.
Someday I might re-write that story in regular prose. I would also be deleting the original (unsuccessful version) which is still floating around
here in the middle of the ENM pages.
