Re: Spammers
I remember someone on here warning that they'd experienced these spammers before on a different forum and that they'd register loads of new accounts and leave them for weeks and months only to activate them later on. We're seeing it now, accounts registered back in January only now spamming.
Maybe it should be a thing where if an account hasn't commented or liked anything a month after registration it gets deleted?

Probably gonna do something like that, anyone want to use their old account can just re-register.Trundle wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 3:30 pm I remember someone on here warning that they'd experienced these spammers before on a different forum and that they'd register loads of new accounts and leave them for weeks and months only to activate them later on. Re: Spammers
Yeah I don't get why for now just turn off new membership until this is all figured out, I know many have said the same thing, but at least it would slow down new accounts from being created.

Re: Spammers
I get the distinct feeling that people aren't listening to me, because I've been saying for the past week that none of the accounts being used are new, locking new registrations does nothing to stop the spammer at this point because they're not really creating new accounts.darklord66 wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 4:14 pm Yeah I don't get why for now just turn off new membership until this is all figured out, I know many have said the same thing, but at least it would slow down new accounts from being created.
These are all old accounts, they have no method of spamming at this point other than reusing their old accounts to spam... Well, they would if I didn't deactivate the majority of old accounts with no posts.
honestly, I'd ask people to refrain from asking me to block new accounts as I suspect that's just playing into the spammer's hand.

Re: Spammers
Sorry, I understand, but for a whole a lot of spamming were from accounts that were just created, that the only reason I mentioned it, its all good.Girlspns wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 4:41 pmI get the distinct feeling that people aren't listening to me, because I've been saying for the past week that none of the accounts being used are new, locking new registrations does nothing to stop the spammer at this point because they're not really creating new accounts.darklord66 wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 4:14 pm Yeah I don't get why for now just turn off new membership until this is all figured out, I know many have said the same thing, but at least it would slow down new accounts from being created.

Yeah, this one got in by accident.computerphoto wrote: Mon Mar 03, 2025 1:59 amthe latest spammer- User Nicoola -- memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=4898 Joined: Sun Mar 02, 2025 10:40 amGirlspns wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 4:41 pmI get the distinct feeling that people aren't listening to me, because I've been saying for the past week that none of the accounts being used are new, locking new registrations does nothing to stop the spammer at this point because they're not really creating new accounts.darklord66 wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 4:14 pm Yeah I don't get why for now just turn off new membership until this is all figured out, I know many have said the same thing, but at least it would slow down new accounts from being created.

Again, like I said, of the 20 accounts that got approved in the past week, two were spammers.
The idea of "hey, let's stop allowing people to sign in and kill the forum this way instead of getting inconvenienced by a spammer" doesn't strike me as smart, no matter what anyone tries to argue.

Re: Spammers
Isn't there a way to prevent new users to add signatures? At least temporarily, since the spammers create a signature with their wicked links and don't have even to add a new text to the messages?
Or peventing them to add so many posts at a so short period of time? At least this would reduce the damage they do.
